Happy year of the Dragon! I hope you enjoy this year's collection.

Chinese buildings can sometimes be found with large built-in openings in them, usually facing the sea. These are called "dragon gates" and they are designed to let giant dragons fly freely from the mountains to the sea.

It is said that if the carps from the sea could fly through these dragon gates, they would turn into dragons, making carps a very auspicious symbol in Chinese culture.

In addition to painting dragons, I've also been having a really sweet time painting little lucky carps, as well as cranes, symbolizing longevity and wisdom.

All pieces are individually hand-thrown, carved, painted by Wai-Yant Li. This collection was thrown from a batch of recycled stoneware clay, therefore expect some little blemishes and variations in colour. These have no effect on the functionality nor the durability of the wares.

(White Rabbit candy for scale.)
